July is Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate the diversity within the disabled community and an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disabled community. People with disabilities make up the largest minority group in the world, 15% of the world's population, according to the  and .


Disability pride is notably celebrated in July to commemorate the passing of the  in July of 1990, landmark legislation that broke down barriers to inclusion in society. But barriers still exist, which is why we need to honor every kind of disability, the people who identify with them, and the wide range of supports they need to thrive.
